You may want – and be able - to carry on working. If so, that’s fine... but try to think about how you can make things easier for yourself at work.

For example you could rearrange your work space so everything you need is close to hand, or you may be able to put off more tiring tasks until a later date. If your employers are sympathetic, try talking with them about your needs. You may be able to adjust your hours, for instance, or build some rest periods into your day.

If you find you are simply too tired to go to work, don't feel guilty. Many patients need to take time off to rest.

If this happens to you, you may be able to claim sick pay or benefits. You can get more information from your local Social Security (Benefits Agency) Office or Citizens Advice Bureau. The hospital social worker can also advise you... or ask at one of our Cancer Information Centres.

The getting help and support section of this website has details of organisations that may be able to help you at this time.
